Bristol charity advent calendar 2023, Day 22: St Peter’s Hospice

By Mia Vines Booth  Thursday Dec 21, 2023

St Peter’s Hospice is a local Bristol-based charity giving end of life care to adults.

Their expert teams believe that everyone deserves care and dignity at the end of their life, and aim to provide this in a professional and compassionate way.

From providing respite in the hardest of times, to supporting loved ones and carers, St Peter’s has established itself as a trusting charity to lean on over its 40 year existence.

It is the only adult hospice in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset, giving inpatient care and in the community and people’s homes.

Donations make the work of people like Cate, a Community Nurse Specialists, possible. She has been supporting a patient called Lee, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour, and his family

They are “a nurse on the doorstep, a voice at the end of the phone, and a hand held when it’s needed most”.

The charity is running two campaigns this winter. Its ‘Wherever, whenever’ appeal is asking for donations of £20 to £75 to support its community,

  • £20 could help fund a nurse’s time on our 24 hour Advice Line
  • £45 could help a family to access much-needed bereavement support
  • £75 could pay for the visit of a Community Nurse Specialist

The charity has also launched its ‘hassle-free’ Christmas tree recycling scheme.

Volunteers will collect real Christmas Trees from residents in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset and recycle them in exchange for a recommended donation of £15-£20 or whatever you can afford, benefiting the environment and a local charity too.

The Christmas Tree Collection scheme takes place on Friday, January 5 and Saturday, January 6 2024 at selected postcodes including BS4, BS5, BS7, BS9, BS10, BS15, BS16, BS20, BS21 BS30, BS41 and BS48.
