Bristol demonstration: ‘No to the far-right’
People of Bristol are invited to stand in solidarity against racism at a demonstration on Wednesday evening.
The call to action follows a stunt by members of Generation Identity – a far-right youth movement – who put red dye into the fountain outside the Victoria Rooms on Queens Road.
A sign next to the fountain made a chilling reference to Enoch Powell’s anti-immigration ‘rivers of blood’ speech in 1968.
is needed now More than ever
Stand Up to Racism campaigners and students from the University of Bristol have condemned the sentiments of the group and are organising a demonstration to oppose the rise of its racist ideology.

Organisers have said on the event’s Facebook page: “Generation identity, a pan-European far-right youth movement, mostly based in Italy, Germany and Austria, have been trying to make themselves known around Bristol.
“Their veneer of respectability thinly veils their anti-refugee and migrant sentiment.
“We at Stand Up to Racism believe that Generation identity should be opposed at every turn, and that racism will never be welcome on our campuses.”
The demonstration is set to take place outside outside the Victoria Rooms from 4.45pm on Wednesday, November 28.
