Bristol Ferry confirm post-Covid return
The company that runs the city’s distinctive yellow and blue ferry boats have confirmed that they will not be returning to the water this year.
Bristol Ferry stopped all of their services in March and bosses say that services will only resume next spring.
In a statement, they said: “Throughout this pandemic public safety has remained our upmost priority, and it is for that reason, after consultation with our staff and membership, we have taken the difficult decision not to reopen yet – despite summer being our busiest and most profit-making season.
is needed now More than ever
“As a community organisation providing a much-loved ferry service to the city, historically we have been on the water 364 days a year.
“However, the realities of a seasonal business mean we always operate at a loss throughout the autumn and winter months, which we subsidise via the profitable spring and summer.
“Unfortunately, due to the lockdown we have been unable to generate these profits this year, and therefore are not in a financial position to resume our service in 2020. Instead to ensure the long-term future of the organisation, we will resume operations on the 3rd April 2021.”
Despite their services on pause until the spring, the boats will still be undergoing their annual maintenance programme in November.
Bristol Ferry’s office will also reopen in November to accept boat party bookings for next year, with public trips and tours for 2021 available now via their website.
