‘Bristol Giving Day is a chance to demonstrate the city’s generous spirit’

By Charlie Watts  Tuesday Aug 14, 2018

The inaugural Bristol Giving Day will see businesses across the city fundraising for local charities and causes.

Companies are being asked to shift their focus from turning a profit to inspiring generosity for the event that is hosted by Quartet Community Foundation and will take place on Wednesday, October 10.

A sponsored Hawaiian shirt day at work and abseiling down office buildings are just some of the ways businesses will be raising funds on the day.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

Sue Turner, the chief executive of Quartet Community Foundation, says: “Thousands of small charities, voluntary organisations and community groups across Bristol spend less than £10,000 a year on the fantastic work they do for disadvantaged local people.

“They have no marketing or fundraising departments, so they can’t appeal to the public for funds to support them. We’ve created the first ever Bristol Giving Day to give these local heroes a fair chance of getting support from our city’s generous businesses and their staff.”

The Florist on Park Street is the first business to sign up.

Sales manager Christy Greaves says: “We are delighted to be involved in Bristol Giving Day – an incredible event where we hope to show off the generous spirit of our city.”

Quartet Community Foundation is a charity based in the South West that gives around £3m in grants each year to support hundreds of thousands of people through local front line charities and voluntary groups.

Businesses can sign up to Bristol Giving Day by visiting: www.bristolgivingday.co.uk.
