Bristol Half Marathon 2014: 8,000 runners
Organisers have said about 8,000 runners took part in the 2014 Bristol Half Marathon yesterday.
Bathed in glorious early autumn sunshine, the first wave of runners were set off by the Lord Mayor, Cllr Alistair Watson, who then joined the race running in his mayoral robes complete with dummy gold chain and race number “1”.
Cathedral bells chimed as runners assembled for the second wave at 10am, waved off by Cllr Simon Cook, the Lady Mayoress and veteran local Olympian Nick Rose.

In the event’s 26th year, the men’s race was won by debutant Ben Siwa from Uganda with a time of 63 minutes 55 seconds. Gladys Yator from Kenya won the women’s race in 73:01.
Sarah Piercy, the only elite wheelchair athlete to take part, finished in 1 hr 15:30 and the Lord Mayor clocked 2 hrs 01.11.
