Bristol man dressed in T-Rex costume proposes to girlfriend during London Marathon

By Martin Booth  Monday Apr 23, 2018

As if running the hottest London Marathon on record while dressed in an inflatable T-Rex costume wasn’t enough, a Bristol runner had a special surprise for his girlfriend.

Chris Jones proposed to Katie Parker while still inside his seven-foot costume on Tower Bridge.

Chris’ future father-in-law Phil was running alongside him as a Jurassic Park ranger and was tasked with handing Chris the ring at the crucial moment.

Soon after Katie said yes, the pair were interviewed by Radzi Chinyanganyaon on BBC One’s live coverage of the marathon:

The pair have been together for eight and a half years, with Katie saying that the proposal on Tower Bridge where she was watching the race had been “incredible”.

Chris said: “She’s just the best, she has supported me for so long, she has been so great with this as well and everything that I have done, I love her so much.”

Chris is already known among Bristol’s running community for completing all of the city’s parkruns in his dinosaur costume.

He was running the London Marathon to raise money for the Evelina London Children’s Hospital who nursed his cousin James back to health from a life-threatening infection when we was only 20 months old.

James, who is now seven, loves dinosaurs so that was one of the reasons why Chris – who only started running in 2015 – completed the 26.2 miles in costume.
