Bristol MP to marry Radio Bristol presenter

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Feb 11, 2015

Was this the moment, live on BBC Radio Bristol, that political interrogation led to flirtation between mid-morning show presenter John Darvall and Bristol North West MP Charlotte Leslie?

“Looking at the picture, Charlotte, it’s actually very good,” says Darvall in the February 2014 exchange after the Bristol Post had Photoshopped Leslie’s head onto the body of a fairy.

“It’s a great picture. Let’s face it; I’m looking at all our MPs here in the West and I think you’re the only person who could carry that off.”

Leslie and Darvall announced their engagement on Wednesday after a whirlwind romance. The proposal happened on Christmas Day, less than three months after the pair started seeing each other.

Leslie said: “I like the fact we don’t agree. If I ever get too Tory he’ll bash me.”

Darvall will be moving from the mid-morning slot to present the afternoon show until after the General Election, in order to avoid any perception of a conflict of interest.
