Bristol named one of world’s top cities for millennials

By Bristol24/7  Wednesday Apr 19, 2017

Bristol has been ranked as the world’s 25th top city for millennials to live or visit.

More than a dozen criteria were used to discover which cities offer millennials the best standards of living based on general characteristics including the number of startup companies, how affordable it is to rent and the price of beer.

As well as looking at the length of tram lines, the transport score considered the availability of Uber and the existence of a bicycle-sharing scheme.

Amsterdam topped the ranking in the survey conducted by furnished apartment company Nestpick, scoring high for its strong business ecosystem, high levels of openness and recreation.

Berlin was in second place, with top marks for its nightlife, followed by Munich and Lisbon.

London ranked first among UK cities and 16th globally. Manchester came second nationally and 21st globally, and Bristol came third nationally and 25th globally.

“At Nestpick we’ve witnessed firsthand a clear pattern of migration among millennials from all over the world to specific cities.” said Nestpick managing director Ömer Kücükdere.

“United Nations World Tourism Organization data confirms that travellers among this generation choose these same cities for their leisure time, confirming a clear appeal of these cities over others for this group.

“We set out to better understand the factors which combine to create this phenomenon.”
