Bristol Open Doors is back – but not as you know it
Bristol Open Doors returns in September, offering residents the chance to become tourists in their own city.
For one weekend in September, an explorer wristband will allow tourists and locals alike to visit a selection of four out of the 67 experiences on offer.
The adventures available across the city range from audio tours of Bristol Beacon and Redcliffe Caves to outdoor theatre at Ashton Court and a chance to be guided around the conservation plans at Temple Church.
is needed now More than ever
Events have been designed to make sure people feel safe and at ease, through bookable time slots and a combination of outdoor events.
Anna Rutherford, director at Design West, said: “It’s been a busy lockdown for us as the team has worked with audio designers, artists, venues and historians to create a living history of the city’s spaces.
“This year, for the safety of our brilliant audiences, venues and volunteers, all experiences must be pre-booked online which allows us to keep to safe group numbers.
“We’re excited that this year’s programme gets you behind the scenes of some of Bristol’s cultural icons with plenty of surprises!”
An explorer wristband will also give people access to free travel with First Bus across the city throughout the Open Doors weekend.
Open Doors is a not-for-profit, charity-run festival which aims to reinvigorate Bristol’s iconic landmarks and uncover access to forgotten spaces through hands-on workshops, talks and expert-led tours.
The weekend will run from September 10 to 12.
