Bristol refugee memorial as convoy leaves

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Nov 5, 2015

A public memorial service will be held on College Green for refugees who have died on their journey to the UK.

Campaign and aid group Calais Refugee Solidarity Bristol have organised the memorial on Wednesday, November 11, at 5pm-7pm.

The memorial is due to take place after a convoy of donations for refugees departs from College Green at 2.30pm to “The Jungle” camp in Calais.

“The Big Send Off will feature a cavalcade of vans and buses making their way through Bristol, artwork with messages of solidarity that will go to Calais and a rally with speeches, performances from Circus to Borders, music and more,” Calais Refugee Solidarity Bristol said.

“We hope that the people of Bristol, who generously donated enough useful items to fill two huge lorries, will join us to celebrate living in a city that is prepared to take action, as well as remembering those who have lost their lives trying to find safety.”
