Bristol to Base Camp team leave for Nepal

By Martin Booth  Sunday Mar 31, 2019

When a team of eight men and women from Bristol businesses take part in a trek to Everest base camp, they will be taking a special memento of a former teammate who tragically died earlier this year.

The Bristol to Base Camp team left the city for Nepal on Sunday to raise money for St Paul’s-based charity PHASE Worldwide, which has been working in remote areas of Nepal since 2005, supporting isolated Himalayan communities through health, education and livelihoods projects.

The team will be taking a t-shirt owned by original team member Jon Lewin on their arduous 19-day trek, to remember Jon who died while surfing in Sri Lanka in January.

Jon died in January while surfing in Sri Lanka. It is thought that the travel photographer, blogger and food writer had a seizure while in the water.

Donations can be made to the Bristol to Base Camp campaign at www.bristoltobasecamp.co.uk. If anyone in Bristol is interested in taking part in the 2020 trek, email [email protected] for more information.

Team members taking part in this year’s trek are Dominic Borel (Pasta Loco), Magda Pietrykowska (Pasta Ripiena), Jason Mead (Hyde & Co), Nathan Lee (Hyde & Co), Dee Singh (civil service), Joel Lloyd Da Costa (Ovo Energy), Lorne Kramer (Icon Films) and Johnny Hazel (Early Years Catering)
