Bristol to host women’s Ashes one-day clash
Bristol will host one of the women’s Ashes one-day internationals (ODI) next summer, the first time the city has hosted a women’s 50-over match.
Gloucestershire’s County Ground will be the venue for the second match in the 2015 Women’s Ashes series as England take on Australia on Thursday, July 23.
It will be a chance for Bristol cricket fans to see if the England side, led by captain Charlotte Edwards, can win a third Ashes series in a row.
“It is always good to play at new venues and spread the women’s game across the country, so I’m already really looking forward to heading to Bristol and playing in front of a passionate local crowd next summer,” said Edwards.
Gloucestershire Cricket’s chief executive Will Brown, added: “We are very excited and honoured. This fits perfectly with our ambition to bring more world-class cricket to Bristol.”
The first ODI takes place at nearby Taunton on July 21, while the single test match is held at Canterbury. Three Twenty20 matches finish the series at Chelmsford, Hove and finally Cardiff.
The women’s team has had a successful year, and have been shortlisted for the Team of the Year in the 2014 Sunday Times and Sky Sports Sportswomen of the Year Awards. Edwards was also nominated for the 2014 ICC People’s Choice Award, becoming the first female cricketer to be shortlisted to receive the honour.
Ticket information for the Bristol match will be announced soon. For more information about the Ashes series, visit the ECB website.
