Uni students raise money to send cleaner on holiday

By Louise Knight  Wednesday Jun 27, 2018

Students at the University of Bristol have come together to give a cleaner the gift of a lifetime.

Herman Gordon, described by students as “a Bristol institution”, was given more than £1,500 for him and his wife to visit their family in Jamaica.

It’s a trip they haven’t taken for four years, and popular Herman was moved to tears when he was given the generous gift.

The money was presented to Herman in an envelope along with a note from the students he has supported:

Dear Herman,
On behalf of the students at Bristol, we would like to thank you for all the positive energy you have given to us throughout the years. You have brightened many of our days and we want you to know that we love and appreciate you. We have come together to give you a special gift as our way of saying thank you. Have a lovely summer!
Much love,
Bristol students

Herman cried tears of joy upon receiving his gift

The students who began the GoFundMe page for Herman have chosen to remain anonymous.

However, the statement issued on the Bristruths Facebook page sparked a lot of interest among Bristol undergraduates.

One admin of Bristruths told The Tab: “Herman is a Bristol institution and we are delighted that he and his wife will be enjoying Jamaica this summer.

“Thanks to all the students who chipped in and repaid all the hard work and good cheer he gives us.

“Bristruths is delighted to have played a small role in bringing this campaign to a bigger audience and would love to do more of this in the future once we come back in September. Look forward to the holiday snaps!”
