Join Bristol Art Gallery & Museum for a full weekend of Chinese New Year festivities to celebrate the Year of the Rooster.
The doors of one of the city’s most historic buildings will open from 11am till 4pm on Saturday and Sunday for an event that we look forward to each year. Perfect for families and all who fancy experiencing some authentic Chinese culture; the events programme is packed with parades, live music, market stalls and art activities.
The weekend of festivities will be opened by Lord Mayor of Bristol, and will commence with traditional dancing and singing, as well as martial arts demonstrations through the centre of the gallery. The whole city is invited to this huge celebration, that is one of the biggest dates on Bristol’s cultural calendar. Festival masks and decorations can be made at one of the many craft stalls at the event so everyone can join in and dance.
As in every year, the Gallery has planned a non-stop timetable of entertainment for the whole family. Children can search for hidden roosters on the clue trail, and keep busy with kite-making workshops. The event promises to bring elements of traditional Chinese culture to Bristol – there will also be calligraphy and origami classes, chess competitions and language workshops to try your hand at.
Laura Pye, Head of Culture at Bristol City Council said: “Seeing so many magnificent performances in such a beautiful venue is one of the highlights of my year,” and is set to be the spectacular closure of a week of Chinese New Year celebrations around Bristol.
