Bristol West: 2017 General Election result
Thangam Debbonaire retained her Bristol West seat, winning almost two-thirds of the vote in a constituency that saw a huge 77 per cent turnout.
It was a thumping victory for the Labour MP who had been a particularly vocal critic of her party leader Jeremy Corbyn.
“People voted for hope and I will do my best to serve you whether you voted for me or not,” said Debbonaire. “I have been talking to teachers and parents throughout this campaign and the Tory cuts to education have to be fought.”

She added: “I just think the whole of Bristol has voted for Labour and for hope but it does not amaze me when I think about the fantastic people.”
Despite the Green Party focusing much of their national attention on the seat, Molly Scott Cato was pushed into third place behind the Tory candidate Annabel Tall, with the Greens’ share of the vote down 14 per cent since 2015.
Scott Cato said: “I’m terribly disappointed. Because I was really hopeful we might get more Green representation in Westminster and I feel that’s so important to keep environmental issues on the agenda.
“Bristol West has got to be the best to do that and its very disappointing to lose. Its very disappointing to come behind the Conservatives but we have seen the country has split between the two main parties.”
In fourth place, former Bristol West MP Stephen Williams secured only 7.3 per cent of the vote.
