Bristol Zoo to reopen
Bristol Zoo will reopen on Tuesday, July 14 after being closed for more than 100 days.
Keepers and vet staff have been working at the zoo during the closure, the longest in its 185-year history.
“We are thrilled to be opening our doors again and welcoming people back. We have really missed our visitors, members and supporters,” says Dr Justin Morris, chief executive of Bristol Zoological Society which runs Bristol Zoo Gardens.

“Never before, not even during the Second World War, have we been closed for such a long time. It’s a great step forward and I’d like to thank everyone for the incredible support they have shown us during this difficult time.”
Bristol Zoo and the Wild Place Project, both run by Bristol Zoological Society, closed on March 21 and have lost several million pounds over the past few months.

The society has been running an appeal while being shut so that the attractions can be maintained and staff can be paid.
Wild Place Project has already been reopened with the same measures in place as Bristol Zoo will have: A timed ticketing system, one-way routes and extra hand washing facilities.
Dr Morris warned that it is still a difficult time for zoos due to huge revenue losses and ongoing concerns about future revenue, saying: “We are very much hoping that people will continue showing us the fantastic support we have received over the past few months, and our fundraising appeal continues to be essential.”
