Primary school named best breakfast club in UK
Hannah More Primary School in St Philip’s have a free breakfast club every morning before school for not only the pupils, but also for their parents and siblings.
They do not just provide food, but also encourage the children to have healthy lifestyles in general.
‘Bike breakfasts’ encourage children to cycle to school and is run by a group of volunteers who check the children’s bikes and educate them in road safety. This means that the children start their days in the fresh air and arrive at school for a nutritious breakfast before a day of learning.
This learning also begins at the breakfast club, where reading and language sessions are held for children and parents whose first language may not be English.
For all their hard work, the breakfast club has been named by Kellogg’s as the best in the UK, bagging £1,500 in prize money and a trip for a small group of pupils and teachers to the an awards ceremony bash held at the Houses of Parliament.

Hannah More community development coordinator Ruth Cochrane said: “We’re really pleased to have won the Best Breakfast Club in England category at this year’s Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards.
“It shows that all the hard work staff put in is worthwhile as children are really benefiting from the club.
“We run quite a range of activities in the early mornings and these opportunities really do improve children’s health and fitness, social skills and confidence.
“We’re also very grateful for the support of parent volunteers who help to make the club a welcoming and busy start to the day.”
The £1,500 prize fund will purchase new books, board games and sports equipment, as well as funding food hygiene and first aid courses for volunteers at the club.
