Bristol’s third reuse & recycling centre due to open
Marvin Rees has called the opening of a new reuse and recycling centre “a fantastic moment for the city”.
The mayor was due to open the new facility at 9am on Tuesday alongside actor Joe Sims and cabinet member for waste and energy services, Kye Dudd (pictured above).
The new multi-million pound South Bristol Reuse & Recycling Centre is set to provide residents with a modern facility that aims to reduce congestion at the council’s two other sites in Avonmouth and St Philip’s.

“This is a fantastic moment for the city,” said Rees ahead of the opening of the centre off Hartcliffe Way in Bedminster.
Rees said: “Part of our commitment to making Bristol cleaner and greener is further reducing the amount of waste that is sent to landfill, and this centre will help us to achieve this goal by supporting people to recycle, repair and reuse – giving pre-loved items a second life.”
A large-scale bug hotel has been installed at the site in the shape of the recycling logo. Johnny Mann, a local sculptor, has designed the hotel to encourage native wildlife to develop across the surrounding area.
Bristol Waste managing director Tony Lawless added: “The pandemic made us value our precious resources more. This new site will provide a solid infrastructure for the south of our city to lead the way to a more sustainable future.”

The new site will also include a reuse shop and workshop to work on good quality, pre-loved items that would normally go to waste.
While still accepting non-residents on foot or bike without booking, the centre is open to residents seven days a week from 8am to 6.45pm.
