Briswool back on display at M Shed
Briswool, the intricately crocheted and knitted model of Bristol, is back on display at the M Shed featuring more crocodiles, an overflowing Floating Harbour and a woolly whale in Millennium Square.
Led by artist Vicky Harrison from Paper Village on North Street in Bedminster, the model has been created over the last few years in small sections by dozens of volunteers.
is needed now More than ever
Well-known landmarks including the Clifton Suspension Bridge, St Mary Redcliffe and the M Shed cranes appear in knitted form while Gromit takes a ride on a ferry and hot air balloons float serenely overhead.
The Briswool skyline also the includes Cabot Tower, Wills Memorial Building, Bristol Cathedral and the high-rise flats in Barton Hill. To give it a realistic touch, traffic can be seen weaving through the city centre. Two separate models of Gloucester Road and Netham Park will also feature in the exhibition.
“Briswool is not about impressive buildings or even the history of Bristol,” Vicky said.
“Volunteers have chosen to stitch locations or objects that mean something to them personally or were a challenge to make. It is a breathtaking scene that charms the eye with colour and texture.”
The month-long display will culminate in a yarn-storming event on Sunday, June 12 to celebrate M Shed’s fifth birthday. Members of the public are invited to make a pennant which will be added to a bunting trail outside the museum.
