Cabot Circus evacuated after bomb scare
A bomb scare caused Cabot Circus to be evacuated for almost two hours on Thursday evening.
Police with sniffer dogs carried out a large search of the shopping centre after receiving a call soon after 8pm saying that a bomb was going to go off at a certain time.
Hundreds of people milled about outside, nearby roads were closed, and ambulances and fire engines were on standby before the security cordon was lifted soon before 10pm.
A police statement on said that Cabot Circus was reopened after it was established there was no risk to the public.
Police said: “Our priority is always to protect you and ensure you are safe and we’d like to thank you all for your support and understanding.
“Please remain alert but not alarmed and to report any suspicious behaviour or activity to us on 101 or in an emergency call 999.”
In a statement during the incident, a Cabot Circus spokeswoman said: “We have temporarily evacuated the centre in response to an alert, and the emergency services are in attendance, the safety of our staff and customers is our number one priority.”
