Call for help to transform lost swimming pool
A not-for-profit group is calling for help to raise the final £40,000 that will allow them to redevelop a derelict swimming pool into a skatepark and community centre.
Campus Skatepark aim to spend £300,000 to transform the former Bishopsworth swimming pool, which closed in 2012.
A public consultation backed plans for the skatepark and a community hub, which local councillor Richard Eddy said would “meet local needs, especially with young people in the neighbourhood”.
Behind the vision for the project is Campus Skatepark, a social enterprise run by Andre Seidel and Tim Nokes.
In a promotional video, the pair said their vision was “to regenerate a derelict building into a thriving youth and community hub”.
They have raised some £260,000 and are asking for help from the public. Once that is raised, they say they can call in the contractors and announce an opening date.
“The skatepark will be coupled with community spaces, including a cafe, meeting rooms and offices,” they said.
“It will be staffed by trained youth workers who will be able to give support and guidance for young people.”
Bristol City Council said the scheme which would save the building from demolition was “brilliant”.
Heather Williams, from Dundry View Neighbourhood Partnership, said it was a “win-win for the area” and described the plan for the pool as “visionary”.
