Campaign begins to get more cycle hangars for Easton
As part of an ambitious goal to install one thousand new bike hangars across the city, Bristol Cycling Campaign are focusing their attention on one east Bristol neighbourhood.
A meeting over Zoom on Monday sees the start of a campaign to to provide 29 of the hangars for Easton, which would be built on road space currently used by motorists to park their cars.
Each secure hangar can store up to eight bikes in a space the size of one car.
is needed now More than ever
Bristol Cycling Campaign have earmarked Easton, with its terraced housing and limited space for garden sheds, as a prime area that would benefit from hangars.
“Areas of Easton are amongst the most deprived in the city. Bikes are cheap. But you can’t have a bike if you have no-where to store it, it’s a non-starter. So what do we want?
“Our call for 1000 hangars by 2024 would mean 29 for Easton ward on a simple per capita basis.
“Doesn’t sound many does it? We just need 29 car parking spaces (apparently there are 4,849 cars in Easton!). So let’s get on with it.”

Twenty-nine new hangars containing eight bikes each would mean that 232 people that cannot currently own a bike could now own one.
Bristol Cycling Campaign add: “If like us, you desperately want to see Bristol City Council and WECA invest in cycle hangars across our city, please come along and share your ideas with us on Monday.
“How can we help Marvin Rees and Dan Norris access more funding to transform the lives of residents in Bristol?”
