Cancer-fighting Dexter spends day with TV magician

By Helen West  Wednesday Jul 12, 2017

A brave seven-year-old who has a life-threatening illness got to spend a magical day with Britain’s Got Talent’s Jamie Raven, thanks to Make A Wish UK.

Dexter Liebow, from Bristol, is fighting stage four neuroblastoma, a rare type of cancer that mainly affects children.

His family contacted Make A Wish, a charity who help grant wishes for seriously ill children, in the hopes of making Dexter’s dream come true.

The day Dexter’s wish came true was captured on film by Make A Wish:

Jamie narrowly missed out on wining Britain’s Got Talent in 2015, and has since taken his magic show on the road. He hosted a magic workshop for Dexter and his family at Smoke and Mirrors magic bar.

“When situations are very, very serious and someone has asked you to help them, there is no higher honour,” said Jamie.

The TV star even brought along Scott Penrose, president of The Magic Circle, who performed tricks for Dexter.

The family were then whisked off to lunch in a limo, before heading back to the bar for a private magic show with Jamie.

Scott said: “It was wonderful to be part of the process. I’ve never been involved in anything quite like this before, but it’s a real eye opener to witness the impact that it has, not just on the individual concerned but the rest of the family.”

“The time and attention that Make A Wish has given Dexter and us as a family has been insane,” said Dexter’s Mum Lucy. ” It’s been so immense, they’ve been amazing. They took Dexter’s little wish and they just made it explode into this amazing day.”

Dexter, who was receiving treatment in hospital at the time his wish was granted, began practising his newly learnt magic tricks straight away.

This year, Make A Wish hopes to grant 1,000 wishes. To sponsor a wish, make a donation or to become a #WishMaker and help make wishes happen, you can visit make-a-wish.org.uk or telephone 01276 40 50 70.
