Canons Yard new name for Bristol’s ‘leisure and entertainment quarter’
A huge mural painted by Bristol artist HazardOne looks down over the the newly renamed ‘Canons Yard’.
The area of the Harbourside containing businesses including Brewdog, Lane 7 and Par 59 is described in a new brochure as a “leisure and entertainment quarter”.
“Proudly positioned in the centre of a major mixed-use neighbourhood adjacent to Bristol’s historic Floating Harbour, this exciting development seamlessly connects the city centre and leafy residential areas of Clifton and Hotwells.”

The new Canons Yard name appears to be a creation of Canada Life Asset Management who own many of the buildings in the area that stretches from Explore Lane to Canons Way.
Prior to its redevelopment in the early noughties, gasworks covered much of the site which even longer ago was marshland known as Canon’s Marsh.
Two units are currently for sale on Millennium Promenade including what used to be Sprinkles Gelato, which closed in March with its owner blaming the area’s growing alcohol culture as one reason.
Within the last decade in the Harbourside, units including M&S Simply Food, The Triathlon Shop and Flingers Party World have been turned into large bars. Hooters even briefly occupied part of what today is Lane 7.

The glossy new brochure, with empty units being sold by Clifton-based Arc Retail, says that as a “vibrant neighbourhood both throughout the day and into the evening, Canons Yard has a rich assortment of cultural attractions and welcoming destinations to gather with friends and family…
“With their visionary approach, the owner is putting forward exciting proposals, paving the way for yet more vibrant food offers, alongside a new rooftop venue with breathtaking views over the city.”
