Charity honeymoon for newly-weds

By Sophie Ellis  Tuesday Jun 28, 2016

A newly-wed couple are cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for a Bristol-based charity.

Darren Hall and Charley Pattison are using their honeymoon to support Deki, a microfinance charity which provides loans and business training to help people out of poverty.

The couple started their journey on June 19 and will be on the road for 12 days, cycling 847 miles from Cornwall to Scotland.

Criminal barrister Charley, and Darren, the Green Party’s much-touted candidate in Bristol West at last year’s general election, said they wanted to “share the love” that had been shown at their wedding and asked their guests to donate money instead of gifts.

Both had the challenge on their bucket lists and decided to use the idea for their honeymoon.

Darren added: “I firmly believe that we need to ensure that aid is offered in a way that will help families look after themselves in the longer term, and enable parents to send their kids to school rather than having to force them to work from a young age.”

People can tweet the couple their support using the hashtag #LEJOG.
