Christmas chaos at Bristol Airport after plane leaves runway
Passengers were left stranded at Bristol Airport on Friday after a plane came off the runway just after landing on one of the busiest days of the holidays for travel.
Flights were cancelled and delayed throughout the afternoon, and others diverted elsewhere, after a bmi flight from Frankfurt taxied off the runway soon after 11.30am.
The runway is unlikely to open until 9pm with an airport spokesperson saying that they “are sorry for the disruption and flight cancellations experienced and fully appreciate it is frustrating for our passengers at this time of year”.

All 22 passengers and three crew aboard the Embraer 145 jet disembarked safely via the aircraft steps and no injuries were reported, but emergency services attended as a precaution.
Peter Simpson, CEO for bmi CEO Peter Simpson said: “bmi is aware that many passengers and airlines have seen disruptions to their journeys to and from Bristol Airport today as a result of an incident this morning.
“The investigation into what happened to flight BM1822 after landing is continuing and we are working closely with Bristol Airport and the services to ensure that the airport can return to normal as soon as possible.
“We understand that at Christmas, delays and cancellations can be very distressing for those travelling to see friends and family and we empathise with everyone affected.”
