South Bristol church closing its doors after 150 years
A church in Totterdown is closing its doors in August after serving the community for 150 years.
Totterdown Methodist Church, which is located by Bushy Park, opened in 1872.
Local community group TRESA quoted a church statement as saying that “sadly our church will be ceasing to worship later this year and our final service will be 21 August at 3pm”.

“We have a special service celebration planned and we would like to show all the wonderful things that have happened in the church over the many years it has been a Methodist Church in the community,” the statement continued.
The church is appealing to members of the public for memories and messages about the church.
“If you have memories of Totterdown Methodist Church or its organisations that you would like to share, please give/send a paragraph or more to Jane Cottrell, who is collecting memories and messages from the life of the church.”
TRESA’s has cited the dwindling congregation as the reason for the church’s closure: “It’s sad but the congregation is getting smaller and smaller. They’ve been great at hosting the local community for all sorts of activities.”
It is not clear what will happen to the building close to the Three Lamps junction.
