City poet pens poem to Park Street
If the lights glittering on Park Street were not a sure enough sign that Christmas is just around the corner, then Bristol city poet Vanessa Kisuule’s lyrical love letter to Park Street and Queens Road is a good reminder.
“Here – have a moment that can’t be clicked or swiped,” says Vanessa in her latest poem. “This is a street to fall in love with for the first or 50th time”.

As the nights draw in, the poem encourages people to spend less time scrolling screens and more time strolling the streets of Bristol and features in the 2019 festive film Somewhere Special. The project was commissioned and funded by Bristol City Centre BID and created by digital communications specialists Vaughan and Company, who are also based in Bristol.
is needed now More than ever
BID operations director Keith Rundle shares Vanessa’s love of Park Street and Queens Road, saying: “It’s a historic area crammed with a strong creative culture and independent specialists, and that really comes across with the finished film.”
Vanessa’s words capture the essence of seasonal shopping, a time which is usually characterised by teems of disgruntled shoppers jostling for the latest bargain. Her poetry asks us to take a step back and appreciate the fabulous things that Bristol has to offer, through a tinsel-tinted lens.
