Claire Hazelgrove is Labour candidate for Filton & Bradley Stoke
Filton & Bradley Stoke has never had a Labour MP before, but Labour candidate Claire Hazelgrove has pledged to “make history” and win the seat from the Tories.
Since announcing her candidacy for the constituency, Hazelgrove’s progress to be confirmed as the official candidate has appeared to be more like a coronation than an election, with a slick campaign video and endorsements from the likes of Bristol North West MP Darren Jones and metro mayor Dan Norris.
A former member of the senior leadership team at Friends of the Earth and the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, Hazelgrove stood as Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Skipton & Ripon in the 2010 general election when she was a 19-year-old student at the University of York.

If she wants to represent Filton & Bradley Stoke in Westminster, she will need to defeat the Conservative incumbent, Jack Lopresti, who won in 2019 with a majority of 5,646.
Writing on her Facebook page after becoming the official Labour parliamentary candidate, Hazelgrove said that she was “thrilled” to be selected.
She said: “Thank you so much to local party members – together, we can win here for the first time, get Labour into government, & make life fairer.
“Great candidates and campaigns all round here – thanks to Angela, Rob and Sadik for the comradely contest.
“Thank you to everyone who voted, and those involved in organising the selection.
“AND to my absolutely fabulous team. Every campaign takes a village and I’m incredibly grateful to you.
“The hard work starts now! Let’s make history.”
