Traffic heavy but a calmer day after flooding

By Pamela Parkes  Tuesday Nov 22, 2016

After the flooding and travel chaos on Monday Bristol is slowly getting back to normal.

Flood water in the worst hit area around Whitchurch is receding, leaving behind a trail of ruined cars.

Clean-up teams from Bristol City Council are in the area.

A city council spokesperson said: “Once the water has fully drained, the council will request that Bristol Waste carries out a full clean-up of the area. Due to the scale of the situation across the city, we’d welcome any support from the public helping to clear leaves collecting in gully grids, but only if it’s safe to do so.”

It’s still raining but BBC weatherman Ian Fergusson says the worst of the weather will be over by Wednesday:

But look at the rainfall totals from Monday.

Train services between Bristol and London via Swindon are now up and running again but expect delays

Trains are running again to Taunton but there are problems if you are carrying onto the South West.

Bristol’s roads are very busy; buses are running but surface water is making journeys slower than normal.

Traffic is queuing on the M32, with reports on the BBC travel news that there is a severe accident.

M32 Bristol northbound severe accident, at J3 for A4320 Easton Way affecting A4044 New Bond Street.

M32 Bristol – One lane blocked and very slow traffic on M32 outbound at J3, A4320 (St Pauls), because of a multi-vehicle accident. Congestion on A4032 Newfoundland Street to the A4044 New Bond Street junction.
