Corbyn in Bristol for EU Remain campaign
Jeremy Corbyn rallied Labour supporters to use the momentum from their election victories in Bristol to spread the message of the Remain campaign.
Speaking at The Station on Thursday evening the Labour leader praised the “magnificent election success” which swept Marvin Rees to power as mayor and left Bristol with a majority Labour council.
He added that the party now needed to show its support for the UK to remain in the UK to protect the rights of some of the most vulnerable.

“We will be absolutely voting to retain the European Convention of Human Rights. They are the rights of all of us and we will not allow them to be given away,” he said.
He also warned that without a strong UK voice in the EU Europe could vote to accept the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) which would further threaten public services.
“I want us to be there in 2020 to argue against the dangers of TTIP and what it does, not just to the public services and the NHS, but also of the principle of private transnational corporations having power of sovereign governments.”
Corbyn introduced Rees onto stage who warned against the Leave campaigners’ anti-establishment pitch to voters.
He said: “I’ve watched Ukip going out and pretending to be the voice of the working people when they are just not. This needs exposure and it needs us to expose it and call it out for what it is.”
He added: “This (the EU) is not a prefect institution. We have concerns, but you are not in something because it’s perfect. You are in there to make it work.
“You stay in there for the fight and working for our values and for a strong economy and the right type of economy.”
