Could you take over Jacob’s Wells Baths?
The future of Jacob’s Wells Baths will be discussed at a meeting in City Hall next week.
As Bristol24/7 found in investigations earlier this year, the Grade 2 listed building requires major investment.
Various options are being explored to attempt to keep the former swimming pool and dance centre in public ownership, and to help it serve Bristol’s diverse artistic communities.
Organisations are now being invited to express interest in taking over the building with a long-term lease, as this is seen as the most viable option for saving the baths.
Cabinet member for place Helen Holland said: “We have some fantastic examples in our city of buildings given new life and new purposes after being transferred to communities, and we really hope this will happen here.
“This wonderful building needs a significant investment, and in the current financial climate, the council does not have the means to do this.
“We hope to be able to find an organisation or charitable trust that might wish to rescue the building and put it to good use.”
The meeting at City Hall at 6pm on Tuesday, February 28 will look at previous reports on the building, explain the potential plan of applying for a Community Asset Transfer, and discuss the challenges and opportunities the building provides.
