Cross-harbour ferry returns to operation
One of the best and certainly the most picturesque way of getting to work in Bristol has returned for the first time since lockdown.
Due to social distancing restrictions, only four passengers at a time – or a maximum of six if from the same household – can now use the cross-harbour ferry between the SS Great Britain and the Harbour Inlet.
In another change, the service operated by No. 7 Boats now costs £1.20 per passenger, which can be paid for the first time through contactless payment as well as cash.
is needed now More than ever
Hours of operation for the cross-harbour ferry are on Mondays from 7.30am to 10am and 3.30pm to 6.15pm, Tuesdays to Fridays from 7.30am to 6.15pm, and weekends and Bank Holidays from 10.30am to 5.30pm.
The boat, named Mary Brunel after Brunel’s daughter, is a Rotork Seatruck co-designed by James Dyson of bagless-vacuum-cleaner fame while he was still a student at the Royal College of Art.
No. 7 Boats owner Richard Rankin has been operating boats in the docks since 1999 but has recently put the business up for sale for £675,000.
