Daleks spotted on Clifton Suspension Bridge

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Oct 23, 2019

Clifton Suspension Bridge was closed to traffic on Tuesday evening for what was claimed to be a routine inspection to the main chain anchorage.

But while this was taking place, one of the most feared races in the universe took the opportunity to strut their stuff across Brunel’s famous span.

Under a cloak of secrecy, Doctor Who filmed on the bridge – featuring more than half a dozen Daleks.

Daleks first appeared in a Doctor Who episode in 1963. Their creator, Davros only has one intention, destroying all life apart from Dalek life.

The episode being filmed in Bristol could be the 2019 Christmas special, with Jodie Whittaker’s second Doctor Who series not set to air until 2020.

In July, The Radio Times reported that there could be a standalone Doctor Who special some time before series 12 hits screens, possibly in a festive slot like this year’s New Year’s Day Special or the Christmas specials that were released from 2005.

This is not the first time that Doctor Who has filmed in Bristol.

In the 2012 Christmas special, The Snowmen, Bristol locations including Portland Square, Corn Street and St Nicholas Market doubled up as Victorian London.

In a later Christmas special starring Peter Capaldi, Leigh Court’s Great Hall was transformed into space hotel Harmony & Redemption, with its library becoming the star ship baggage hold, where the Doctor arrived in the Tardis.
