‘Devastating’ break-in at Arnos Vale
A break-in at Arnos Vale Cemetery has left the small team of staff and volunteers who run the site “devastated”.
The cafe in the grounds was broken into sometime on Wednesday night, with the team now asking the public for donations.
Funds have recently been spent in refurbishing and equipping the kitchen which was in the process of reopening when the break-in occurred.
is needed now More than ever
Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust chief executive, Ellie Collier, said: “We are all devastated this morning about this vandalism.
“Everyone has been working so hard to get through the pandemic and on to new projects, and this is a huge blow.
Insane Root’s production of Hansel & Gretel which is running in the woodland throughout December will not be affected by the incident.
Ellie added: “Many of you have told us how important Arnos Vale has been to you this year. Whether to visit a grave, walk, meet a friend, or bring your children to explore, the daily contact with nature has been of huge value to the community. We are so disappointed that this has happened.”
The break-in has been reported to the police who have been on site.
