Divers in docks as Greenshank prepares to be retrieved

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Jun 29, 2021

Bubbles from below the water were a clue that something was happening close to the site where one of Bristol’s most popular boats recently sank.

The bubbles were from a diver in the murky depths taking a close look at Greenshank which has now been resting on the floor of the Floating Harbour for a fortnight.

When the second diver finished after spending more than an hour underwater, an inflatable resembling a giant carrot was left behind – indicating that Greenshank and the barge next to it could be resurfaced using air bags.

Greenshank – owned by the Bristol Packet – was operating as a cafe.

The canal boat had a “catastrophic failure” around 3am on June 15, causing her to sink and pull a neighbouring barge down with her.
