DJ Derek: Police say death not suspicious

By Bristol24/7  Monday Mar 14, 2016

Police looking for DJ Derek say they have now finished searching the site at Patchway where human remains were discovered last week.

In a statement officers investigating his disappearance said: “Although we’ve not yet been able to confirm the body is that of 73-year-old Derek Serpell-Morris, as we’re awaiting the results of further DNA tests, we strongly believe it is Derek due to personal items found at the scene.

A post-mortem examination on the body was conducted over the weekend but the results were inconclusive.

Police added that the death is  “being treated as unexplained, we’re satisfied that there’s nothing to suggest it’s suspicious”.

The search area was extended over the weekend and forensic samples are still being examined.

Officers said they have been in continuing contact with the family of DJ Derek.

“Although the delay in confirmation of the identity is frustrating, we know that Derek’s family would want us to carry out a thorough investigation.”
