Easton street named among best in the UK
From a family-run shop that sells more than 9,000 different food and drink products to a mosque that has recently had a major refurbishment, a brilliant butchers to a banging bakery, a small street in Easton has long been known as one of Bristol’s best.
And now it’s official, with St Mark’s Road being shortlisted for The Great Street award in a prestigious national competition which aims to “celebrate and learn from great placemaking”.
St Mark’s Road is among 15 places across the UK that have been named as finalists in the 2020 Urbanism Awards, organised by the Academy of Urbanism.

Judges will visit St Mark’s Road over the summer, with this year’s awards ceremony taking place in London on November 27.
Bristol has good form in the Urbanism Awards. In 2007, Clifton was shortlisted for the Great Neighbourhood award; in 2009, Bristol for the European City of the Year Award, and St Paul’s and St Montpelier the Great Neighbourhood award; 2012, Queen Square for the Great Place award; in 2014, North Street in Bedminster for the Great Street award, and St Nick’s Market the Great Place Award; in 2015, the Christmas Steps Arts Quarter for the Great Place Award; and in 2017, Ashley Vale for the Great Neighbourhood award.
