Eight held after police raid unlicensed party

By Chris Brown  Sunday Nov 2, 2014

Police officers say they came under attack from “makeshift missiles” as they broke up an unlicensed party near Feeder Road at the weekend.

Eight people were arrested when the event at a unit in Avonside Industrial Estate was raided in the early hours of Sunday.

A “large number of people” were at the party when the raid took place, police said.

Detective Inspector Dom Graham said: “Some of our officers were targeted with makeshift missiles during the course of their duties, which is completely unacceptable. Three officers suffered minor injuries and have received treatment.

“A small number of people attending received minor injuries due to the nature of the unstructured event.

“This demonstrates the substantial risks posed to safety when large-scale events are not properly managed and licensed.

“We’ve made eight arrests so far for offences including assault on police, public order, criminal damage and driving under the influence of alcohol.”
