An emergency collection of tents and bedding is being organised to send to Paris where an “influx” of refugees and migrants have been pictured sleeping on the streets under plastic sheets.
People in Bristol are being asked to donate camping mats, blankets, pop-up tents and sleeping bags as thousands more are expected to arrive in the French capital to claim asylum.
It comes days after French president Francois Hollande announced he would be closing The Jungle makeshift refugee camp in Calais where as many as as 10,000 people are living.
is needed now More than ever
The emergency collection in Bristol is being organised by Aid Box Convoy which will be leaving from The Plough on Easton Road. Donations can be dropped off ffrom Friday 2pm until Sunday at midnight. The pub is asking for deliveries to be made before 9pm.
A message on The Plough’s Facebook page said: “There is huge influx of refugees arriving in Paris to claim asylum who are finding themselves sleeping on the streets. This situation has just exploded into a serious humanitarian crisis.
“Aid Box Convoy have sent £3k in two days and it isn’t coming close to dealing with the situation so we need physical donations too. Whole families are sleeping under nothing but plastic sheeting. Summer is over so please donate your equipment knowing you are helping desperate people.”
The pub added a list of items needed.

Normal tents if intact
Sleeping bags
Bed rolls
Bed mats
Yoga mats
The pub also asked for drivers to come forward to deliver equipment next week, with Aid Box Convoy covering the cost of the ferry and fuel. More information can be found on the pub’s Facebook page.
