End the tampon tax march
More than a hundred people have signed up to march through the centre of Bristol on Saturday to show their dissent for the tampon tax and the two local MPs who voted against its removal.
Conservative MPs Charlotte Leslie (Bristol North West) and Chris Skidmore (Kingswood) were among the 305-strong majority who voted against a move to force the government to cut the tax from it’s current 5% back in October, meaning sanitary products maintained the status of a ‘non-essential luxury item.’
In response to this, students from Bristol university have organised a march for all of those who oppose the outcome of the vote and see it as a “direct reflection of the still very much existent gender inequality that women face today.”
is needed now More than ever
Protesters are urged to practice “free bleeding” or wear pants painted with fake blood to raise awareness and attention of the march, which will begin at College Green and end at The Bearpit with speeches and poetry performances.
