Family in urgent appeal over missing DJ Derek

By Louis Emanuel  Friday Jul 24, 2015

The niece of DJ Derek who raised the alarm after he hadn’t been seen for three weeks has appealed for help to find him.

Jennifer Griffiths, 29, said the family were “fearing the worst, but trying to stay positive”.

Already concerned that DJ Derek – real name Derek Morris – had not replied to recent voicemail messages, she said she raised the alarm after she was contacted by his drinking mates.

Derek, 73, a real ale aficionado known to have drunk in all the UK’s Weatherspoons, had not been seen by any of them in three weeks.

She even phoned all the Weatherspoons pubs in Bristol before calling the police on Thursday night.

“Everyone has agreed this is just out of character,” she told Bristol24/7.

“Me and him, we speak quite regularly and I had left him messages, but he hadn’t got back to me.

“We are worried sick. We are fearing the worst, but trying to stay positive still. We’re hoping and praying he’s somewhere safe.

“We just want him home safe and well.”

She added that she was among his closest family as he has no children of his own.

Police are urging anyone with information to call 101.
