Deliveroo and Upfest: indy art and food mash up
Bristol has an independent food scene like no other and, to celebrate and support these restaurants, Deliveroo has partnered with Upfest, Europe’s largest Street Art Festival, to create a huge mural on Wine Street and a selection of unique artworks inspired by 10 of Bristol’s best independent restaurants. Keep your eye out for these artworks dotted around the city’s streets.

May 2nd 2023 – Deliveroo has unveiled a brand-new mural in the centre of Bristol to celebrate the city’s independent culinary delights. In partnership with Upfest, Deliveroo has commissioned graffiti artist Silent Hobo to create the large-scale piece of artwork on Wine Street to pay tribute to Bristol’s local food.

In this series, we’ll spotlight a different independent Bristol restaurant available on Deliveroo. First up it’s Cheung’s Vegan Kitchen, which is sure to transform your takeaway game.
Indy food at its best: Cheung’s Vegan Kitchen
Nestled in the heart of Brislington, Cheung’s Vegan Kitchen has been a well-loved family-run takeaway since 1969. Starting out as a traditional Chinese restaurant, it transformed into a fully vegan takeaway in May 2021 by owner Linda Wong (formerly Cheung). She says this was in response to Bristol’s demand for sustainable and vegan food options – as the appetite for Cheungs’ plant-based dishes grew, they’ve never looked back.
The chefs at Cheung’s use authentic flavours and traditional Chinese cooking techniques, selecting only the finest plant-based ingredients – there is something for everyone.
“The Crispy Chilli Vegan Beef” is a must-try, served with a delicious selection of vegetables, while the “Vegan Duck Chow Mein” is another favourite, which is served with vegan noodles and a splash of hoi sin sauce.
It’s no surprise that the restaurant was named as one of the top vegan Chinese takeaways in the UK by PETA.
Get to know the artist: Ejits
Local artist and muralist, Ejits, recently created a unique illustration inspired by Cheung’s Vegan Kitchen as part of Deliveroo’s mash up of Bristol’s independent restaurants and street art. The artist’s uniquely colourful and animation style art brings a fun twist. Talking about her creative process she said: “My inspiration for the artwork came from Cheungs’ wide range of ingredients, as well as the traditional lucky cat symbols associated with good luck and fortune. I used the chopstick and bowl from the restaurant’s logo, tying together the piece.
“My art is designed to spark the big kid in us, to create those happy and nostalgic feelings. The bright, fun characters help to make the world a more colourful place.”
Ejits’ interpretation of Cheungs’ delicious vegan food can be spotted on display across the city of Bristol. Have you spotted it yet?
