Fareshare launches employability programme for young people
The region’s biggest food charity, Fareshare South West, is launching a new programme to equip young people with the tools they need for employment.
FareChance is a 12 week work experience programme which aims to give young people the confidence and skills they need to get into the world of work.
The programme is aimed at young people aged 18-24, who are not in education, employment or training (NEET)
is needed now More than ever
FareShare South West redistributes surplus food from the food industry to frontline charities, schools and community groups across the South West.
As well as tackling waste and fighting food poverty, the charity aims to offer its volunteers the opportunity to gain new skills, learn different ways of working and build their confidence.
The FareChance programme will build on the success of the charity’s recent Employability pilot which saw them offer work experience to six young people via the government’s KickStart scheme.
The programme offers a semi-structured timetable of work and support to help young people feel more confident about their future and better equipped to find work. FareChance participants will work alongside the staff and volunteers as part of the warehouse team to gain practical, useful work experience.
Over three months, participants will learn the basics of warehouse management, supporting the FareShare South West operations team to manage and deliver good-quality surplus food to frontline charities, schools and community groups across the region.
As well as spending time in the warehouse and out on the FareShare fleet of vans, participants will learn to write a top notch CV, be able to work as part of a team, take part in practice interviews and get support and signposting for next steps.
There are just 12 places available for the FareChance programme. No previous experience or skills are required – just a willingness to turn up and get involved.
The programme will begin On Monday, December 5, and will be based at FareShare South West’s South Bristol warehouse on Vale Lane, BS3.
