Finzels Bridge approved

By Bristol24/7  Wednesday Mar 18, 2015

A controversial new bridge connecting Castle Park to the new Finzels Reach development has been approved by city councillors.

Clifton-based developer Cubex had earlier this week revealed that refusing the pedestrian and cycle bridge would jeopardise £120 million of investment.

But council officials were recommending refusal for the design, which which curves across the Floating Harbour enabling it to climb a 7.2 metre difference in height between the two sides, and rowers said that the bridge would cause danger to them and other water users.

The aptly-named Gavin Bridge, co-founder of Cubex, was understandably delighted that the bridge design was approved.

“This is the most technically challenging thing we have done as a business. We have spent 10 months consulting, designing and holding workshops. We are Bristol-based and we care about the city.”

He added: “We have consulted with the harbour master and many other river users and I can appreciate that many people don’t want a bridge but we have done everything we can to be inclusive and consult widely.”
