Fire breaks out in Voi warehouse

By Martin Booth  Sunday Jan 2, 2022

Hundreds of hire e-scooters have been damaged in a fire that broke out on New Year’s Day.

The Voi scooters were being stored in a warehouse, with some 200 of the coral-coloured vehicles harmed in the blaze which also caused damage to the building.

Eight Avon Fire & Rescue crews from across Bristol attended the incident, with the fire service arriving at 12.28pm on Saturday.

It is still unclear what caused the fire to start in the warehouse on Dixon Road in Brislington but it is believed to be accidental.

Fire crews stayed at the warehouse into the evening to make sure the fire did not reignite, a common occurrence in fires caused by lithium batteries which Voi e-scooters contain.

A spokesperson for Voi said: “We can confirm that on the 1st of January the fire brigade was at our third-party logistics warehouse, located on Dixon Road in Bristol.

“No one was injured and the situation was quickly brought under control. We are conducting a thorough investigation and collaborating with the local fire service to identify what caused the fire.

“We do not expect any major effects on our operation in the region.”
