First look at new homes in Wapping Wharf

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Mar 14, 2019

The gatehouse of Bristol’s former prison will form a grand entrance to the new homes being built in the second phase of Wapping Wharf.

The restored early 19th century gatehouse will provide a new public walkway into Wapping Wharf, opening onto a small square flanked by residents’ communal gardens.

Designed by Bristol architects Alec French, the one-, two- and three-bed apartments and penthouses will be housed within two six-storey buildings to be called Abel Yard and Hope Quay.

Pauline Sangster, senior residential sales & marketing manager at Muse Developments, said: “It’s hugely exciting to be gearing up for the next phase of homes at Wapping Wharf which are rapidly taking shape on site.

“It’s been wonderful to see how warmly Bristolians have embraced this new harbourside neighbourhood and we’re really pleased to be able to continue to grow this unique community.”

Wapping Wharf Living, a joint venture between developers Umberslade and Muse, has secured £23.4m funding from Homes England towards phase two, to enable the creation of more than 250 new homes.

The support comes from Homes England’s Home Building Fund, which provides loans to help unlock or accelerate the delivery of residential and mixed-use housing developments.

Most of the apartments will be offered for sale on the open market, with 93 being sold to Sovereign, 49 of which will be shared ownership housing and the remainder for private rent.

After completion of these first 256 new homes, a further 81 affordable homes will be constructed separately as part of phase two, with work expected to be completed by 2020.
