Former BCfm presenter signed by Radio 1

By Martin Booth  Sunday Nov 8, 2020

One of Radio 1’s new presenters was only two years ago a volunteer at BCfm in Easton.

Mollie Finn co-presented BCfm’s One Love Breakfast Show and the Getting Bristol Home drive-time show, and also presented news bulletins during her time at the community radio station between 2016 and 2018,

From January, Finn, who has worked as a sales assistant at Paperchase in Bristol, will be one of the presenters of Radio 1’s Early Breakfast show on Fridays.

She is one of five new presenters joining the station next year, sharing Friday’s Early Breakfast schedule with Joel Mitchell and Fee Mak.

Mollie will take on the slot as her first job in radio after volunteering as a presenter at Bournemouth University’s student station Nerve Radio – following in the footsteps of Greg James who hosted his first show on Radio 1 the day after graduating from university.

BCfm’s Ivan Jackson told Bristol24/7 that Mollie “was extremely supportive of the station and our overall ethos of helping our vulnerable and hard to reach members of our minority and global majority communities”.

Mollie, a former member of Bristol Amateur Operatic Society, graduated from Bournemouth with a degree in communication & media studies.

Back in Bristol in the university holidays in 2018, she worked as an activities coordinator at Juice Community Project in Cadbury Heath.

She told i that her experience in student radio “allowed me to try out the weirdest and wackiest ideas – some of which worked, and some less so!”

She said: “Annie Mac is one of the people who really made me want to be a radio presenter. She’s incredible at what she does. The relationship she has with listeners is something I hope to be able to achieve someday.”

“This is a really exciting time for Radio 1 as we prepare to welcome the next generation of talent,” said head of Radio 1, Aled Haydn Jones.
