Former cabinet member who lost seat could make swift return to City Hall
Former cabinet member Kye Dudd could make a return to City Hall less than a year after losing his seat in the 2021 local elections.
But there is surprise in some quarters that an all-women shortlist was not enacted by the Labour Party to choose the candidate to fight the by-election in Southmead, which has come about following the resignation of Helen Godwin.
Out of ten people who stood to be the candidate in an online meeting, only three were women: Kirsten Malcolm, Teresa Stratford and Sangeetha Wynter.
is needed now More than ever
Dudd, who was cabinet member for transport before losing his Central ward seat, was selected after a vote of party members to fight the by-election.
The 37-year-old has worked for Royal Mail and is an active member of the Communication Workers Union.
A by-election in Southmead will take place on February 17, with Labour needing to win the seat if they are to keep the same number of councillors in City Hall as the Green Party.
