Former hospital to become student accommodation
A former private hospital in Clifton purchased for more than £8m is set to be the latest building in Bristol to be turned into student accommodation.
Most recently occupied by Nuffield Health, the former hospital on Upper Byron Place between the Triangle and Brandon Hill occupies a 3,400 sq m site.
It has been bought by Empiric Student Property for £8.08m and will be turned into a “100+ bed premium student accommodation development”, marketed by Hello Student.

The scheme will comprise a mix of studios, two bed apartments and townhouses, as well as other spaces such as a games room, work and reading rooms, and a gym.
Empiric’s two other properties in Bristol are William & Matthew House in a former office building on Colston Street, and another former office block overlooking College Green.
Empiric chief executive Paul Hadaway said: “Bristol is a prime location for the Group, and the St Mary’s Hospital site is ideally situated to target students at the University of Bristol.
“The University is planning for significant growth across the city, and suffers from a shortage of good quality student accommodation.
“This will be Empiric’s third asset in Bristol, resulting in a portfolio serving circa 0.7 per cent. of Bristol’s full-time student population when complete, helping to relieve the city’s supply-demand imbalance.”
The St Mary’s Hospital site (pictured below in its heyday) has been empty since 2013, when Nuffield moved into new premises at the Chesterfield on Clifton Hill.
